Center Fours

This weekend past saw the section play of the Canterbury Center Fours commence, with four womens teams and one mens team entered from Beckenham. With six games of fours over the two days, four games or more were required to go on into post section, which will take place next Sunday (30th November).

The women had two teams qualify, skipped by Jan Khan and Maureen Sullivan, and will take part in the quarter finals at Dorchester next Sunday.

The sole mens team, skipped by Adrian Robins, also managed to scrape through into post section, winning four out of our six games. We will be doing our best to advance from our current top 16 position next Sunday at Elmwood.

Poker / Cocktail Night

As listed in the club programme, Friday the 7th November will be the Poker / Cocktail Night.

This will be a social night of cards without any previous experience with the game. Each table will have someone with poker experience and will help out so that the games flow and remain enjoyable.

If you’re interested, simply contact myself, C.J, or put your name on the sheet at the club. The sheet may have gone walkies, so I will be checking that and replacing it if so within the next two days.

As previously said, this will require no previous experience and promises to be an entertaining evening!

Center Open Singles

The Center Open singles this past weekend saw a lot of success for Beckenham’s Women. They all played well on the friday with the majority of them qualifying for post section which was played on Saturday.

Once the dust had settled, Beckenham was awarded with an impressive three out of eight women not only in the final eight, but in the final four, including an all Beckenham final between Jan Khan and Adele Greenfield.

Jan went on to win the final against Adele 21 – 14.

Final Standings:
1 - Jan Khan (Beckenham)
2 - Adele Greenfield (Beckenham)
3/4 - Verna Veint (Beckenham)
3/4 - Pam Phair (Elmwood)

As always, we’re very proud of the success our women produce.

The men also saw some success, although not on the same scale. Out of the five men that entered, all of them went on to qualify to post section. However the following three rounds of post section saw them all get knocked out, with Paul Howley finishing the best of the lot in a top 16 placing.

The teams are up on the boards for the following weeks interclub matches, including this weekends double headers, so make sure you get in to confirm your availability.
